Best Memory Card for Sony Camera UAE — AED Price Guide 2026

Sony camera memory breaks into two clear standards: CFexpress Type A for the Cinema Line and high-end Alpha bodies, and UHS-II SD (V90 or V60) for the mid-range Alpha and APS-C line. Mixing these up costs you either dropped frames or locked recording modes — neither is acceptable on a paid shoot.

Check CamCity’s current product pages for live prices — memory card pricing fluctuates.

Grey market sellers on Dubizzle and unverified Noon listings regularly sell unbranded or repackaged CFexpress cards at 30–40% below market price. These are not the same product — they typically use slower flash controllers that produce frame drops under sustained writing, and no UAE service centre will touch them if they fail during a shoot.

Understanding the Memory Standards Your Sony Camera Actually Uses

CFexpress Type A [سي إف إكسبريس تايب إيه]: The Standard Every Professional Sony Shooter Needs

CFexpress Type A is Sony’s proprietary high-speed card format — physically smaller than an SD card but built on a PCIe Gen 3 interface that delivers read speeds up to 800 MB/s and write speeds up to 700 MB/s. If your Sony body has a CFexpress Type A slot, this card is non-negotiable for professional video work. Cameras that require CFexpress Type A for their highest-performance modes include the Sony FX3, FX6, FX30, α1, α7S III, α7R V, α7 IV, A9 III, and ZV-E1. Without a VPG200-rated CFexpress Type A card, the Sony FX3 will refuse to record XAVC S-I 4K at 600 Mbps entirely — the camera simply will not start recording and will flash a card speed error.

UHS-II V90 SD Card [بطاقة SD V90]: The Right Choice for Mid-Range Alpha Bodies

For Sony Alpha cameras without a dedicated CFexpress Type A slot — such as the a6700, ZV-E10 II, and older A7 bodies — a UHS-II V90 SD card is the professional standard. V90 guarantees a minimum sustained write speed of 90 MB/s, which covers 4K 60p XAVC S and 4K HEVC (XAVC HS) recording comfortably. The SanDisk Extreme PRO V90 and Sony TOUGH SF-M series are the two most reliable options tested in UAE conditions, including the heat that builds up inside a camera bag sitting in a Dubai carpark between shoots.

Why V60 SD Cards Fail on the Sony FX3 and A7S III

A V60 SD card will record standard 4K 24p and 4K 30p on many Sony bodies. The moment you switch to XAVC S-I (All-Intra 4K), 4K 120p slow motion, or dual-record proxy mode, the camera produces a recording error and stops. A UAE videographer shooting a corporate event in DIFC discovered this in the middle of a keynote speech with a client watching. That is not a recoverable situation. The best memory card for Sony camera use in professional conditions is always rated at or above what the shoot demands — never the minimum.

VPG200 vs VPG400: Which Rating Matters for Your Sony Body

VPG (Video Performance Guarantee) ratings tell you the card’s minimum sustained video write speed. VPG200 = guaranteed 200 MB/s minimum sustained write for professional video codecs. VPG400 = guaranteed 400 MB/s, required for the most demanding All-Intra codecs on the FX3, FX6, and α1. Sony TOUGH CFexpress Type A cards carry VPG400 certification. For the majority of Sony Alpha hybrid shooters using compressed XAVC S codecs, VPG200 is sufficient — but if you are recording uncompressed or All-Intra, only VPG400 certified cards guarantee zero buffer lockups across a full shoot day in UAE summer temperatures.

Which Sony Camera Needs Which Memory Card — UAE Buyer Reference

This section is the practical reference guide for every Sony body currently sold at CamCity. Match your camera to its correct card standard before buying.

Sony Cinema Line [خط السينما]:

• FX3, FX6, FX30 — Requires CFexpress Type A (VPG200 minimum, VPG400 recommended) for all professional video modes. SD V90 works for standard 4K but locks you out of XAVC S-I and 4K 120p slow motion.
• FX9 — Uses XQD / CFexpress Type B. Do not purchase Type A cards for the FX9.

Sony Alpha Full Frame [ألفا كامل الإطار]:

• α1, α7S III — CFexpress Type A required for 4K 120p, XAVC S-I, and RAW output. These cameras have dual CFexpress Type A / SD slots.
• α7R V, α7 IV, α7C II, ZV-E1 — Dual CFexpress Type A / SD slots. Use CFexpress Type A in slot 1 for primary recording; V90 SD in slot 2 for proxy or backup.
• A9 III — Dual CFexpress Type A / SD slots. High-speed burst shooting at 120fps RAW requires CFexpress Type A for buffer clearance.

Sony Alpha APS-C [إيه بي إس سي]:

• a6700 — SD UHS-II slot only (no CFexpress Type A). Use a V90 SD card. V60 is acceptable for standard 4K but not recommended.
• ZV-E10 II — SD UHS-II slot only. V60 or V90 SD card.

Who Should Buy a CFexpress Type A Card in the UAE

Dubai corporate video teams and content agencies shooting XAVC S-I footage for broadcast-quality deliverables need CFexpress Type A without exception. The Dubai corporate production scene — particularly DIFC, Downtown, and Business Bay — runs on compressed 4K for social and All-Intra 4K for broadcast. A V60 SD card will force you to downgrade your codec mid-shoot.

UAE-based wedding and event videographers shooting with the Sony FX3 or α7S III in low-light venues across Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi need the buffer clearance that only CFexpress Type A provides. The FX3’s cinematic low-light performance is fully unlocked only when paired with a VPG400 card.

Sony Alpha hybrid photographers using the α7R V or A9 III for burst shooting — at sporting events, desert wildlife, or automotive shoots in Ras Al Khaimah — need CFexpress Type A to clear the buffer fast enough between bursts. A V90 SD card produces 3–5× longer buffer clearing times on the same body.

Solo content creators and vloggers using the a6700, ZV-E10 II, or ZV-E1 with standard 4K XAVC S recording can shoot confidently on a V90 SD card without spending extra on CFexpress Type A. For this group, the best memory card for Sony camera use is a 128GB SanDisk Extreme PRO V90 or Sony TOUGH SF-M128T.
